I became a member of the Michigan Vintage VW club in 1989, close to the original founding. I was smitten with Volkswagens from birth in the 60’s, having recalled my mother’s first car during my toddler years which was a 1966 VW Ghia convertible (red with black convertible top). Later in my “formative” years, I’ll never forget the 1973 VW Squareback (again, red with grey interior-stickshift) that made so many trips with us all around New England where I’m from. I loved that little car and believe that it’s what sparked my love for all things auto-related. The list of Volkswagens that my mom owned continued to increase from a 1977 VW Rabbit to a 1973 VW Superbeetle. It’s not hard to see why my first car turned out to be a 1974 VW Superbeetle that I would later drive out to Michigan from Connecticut in and begin my new life away from family and friends. It was joined later by a 1981 VW Scirocco , both of which I regret selling to this day as I consider them among the best cars that I ever owned. My current VW stable includes a wonderful 1979 VW Convertible Beetle that I’ve owned since 1989, purchased sight unseen from a stack of old Polaroid pictures from Florida. This was the one VW that I had ALWAYS wanted to own. In addition, up until last year, I also enjoyed putting 120,000 flawless miles on what was a brand new 2001 Jetta-Wolfsburg edition so as you can see Volkswagens have been with me throughout my life and the many wonderful experiences I’ve been fortunate to have. Like those wonderful little cars, this club has provided me with some of the best folks I’ve ever had the priviledge of having in my life and some new friends that have endured. It is for those reasons that I am honored to serve as your vice-president with the hope of imparting my passion to our members. Do what you love and you’ll always be happy and you’ll never be alone ! |

I have been a member of MVVC since 2011. When I first joined, I owned a white 1973 THING. That has since been sold to a nice couple near Chicago. |

I have been interested in VW's since childhood but have never actually had one. A couple of years ago I had someone loan me a VW Squareback to use until I was able to get another vehicle of my own, and that re-kindled my interests in them. My dream VW is a bus, either window van or camper. |

I am a fairly new member of the MVVC, only joining at the show in 2011 when I was finally able to bring my 1972 Super Beetle, George. George was my first car, taught me to drive a manual transmission, helped teach my high school shop class about auto body work, and has followed me from South Central Wisconsin to Brighton, Michigan. After a slight teenage driving incident, he stayed in my parent's care until I had disposable income and a house and garage of my own. He needed a little work to get back up and running again, but we’re back puttering around together and have been to several MVVC Events together in 2011 and 2012, I look forward to coordinating and attending more MVVC events in 2013! (And getting my headlight rims permanently attached.) |
